Hon. Shirley Tyndall, O.J. C.D.

Hon Shirley Tyndalll served historic roles as Jamaica’s Financial Secretary for sixteen years and as Accountant General for two years -- the first woman ever to have been appointed to either of these posts.

As Accountant General she is credited with reforming the department to improve the government’s treasury management. As Financial Secretary, the procedures she developed for the implementation of loan agreements are highly regarded and replicated internationally.

As Vice Chairman of the Financial Sector Adjustment Company (FINSAC) and Chairman of its successor the Financial Institutions Services Limited, Ms Tyndall played a major role in the reconstruction of Jamaica’s financial sector.

She has served at the board level as chairman or as member for a wide range of public and private institutions, including many of the National Contracts Commission, the Jamaica Urban Transit Corporation and the Financial Institutions Services Ltd. The Jamaica Constabulary Forces Strategic Review Panel and the boards of Cable and Wireless (Jamaica), the Jamaica Deposit Insurance Fund and the Bank of Jamaica have also benefited from her membership.
